Eva K. Ruiz, M.S., MFTI  is a Registered Marriage and Family Therapist Intern (IMF 54429) in the state of California.  She obtained a Master’s Degree in Mental Health and Counseling from Florida International University and completed additional training at Southeastern Community Mental Health Center and Two Heart’s Counseling Center.  In addition, she currently holds a position at the Kaiser Permanente Adult Psychiatry Department in San Jose, CA where she treats couples, individuals, and families. She has experience working with children, adolescents, older adults, families, and couples focusing on partnership, marriage, sex, communication and parenting.  Eva has developed strong multicultural competence as a result of working with diverse populations and she is fluent in and comfortable conducting therapy in Spanish.

Eva’s therapy interests include general couple’s therapy and sex therapy.  Regarding couples therapy, her work involves a cognitive behavioral approach that often incorporates mindfulness training in therapy. This approach offers an opportunity for couples to experiment with new ways of relating to each other, so that they can make a conscious and mindful choice about the kind of relationship they wish to create.

Regarding sex therapy, Eva’s method involves assessing, educating, and treating couples using science based techniques, exercises, and interventions that focus on improving difficulties in functioning related to desire, arousal, orgasm and pain with intercourse for both men and women. Research indicates that this approach can be highly effective for those experiencing sexual dysfunction and related distress.

At the Cognitive Behavior Therapy & Mindfulness Center, Eva’s work is supervised by Robin Yeganeh, Ph.D.  For more information about cognitive behavioral couple’s therapy please contact the center at 925-984-8337.
